Alpaca Jersey Finished

Alpaca Jersey

At last I have finished my jersey.  Been so busy weaving, spinning, etc. that it has been lying there staring me in the face wishing me to finish it.  So now I have put on the collar and am still deciding which buttons but it is finished as it is.  I am one very happy camper!!!  Wool is from Alpaca fleece bought at Milestones Alpaca in Ridderkerk from Marjon Burke.  Wonderful stuff to spin and knit.  Very warm and comfortable to wear.

Weaving Pillows - PROGRESS!!!

After a short time I have learned the beating process can really make a difference.  I was being too careful in the beginning and now I see how lovely the cloth has become because I am beating a bit tighter.  This has made the cloth more rich.  Starting to really get a feel for this now and enjoying it.  Maybe a bit too much....Could not put it down last night.  :)

This one still not tight enough:

These are nice and tight and really show the true cloth.  Very Happy Indeed !!!

SHORT FIBRE WOOL

I have finished spinning some very short fibre wool that I had.  This is not a fibre I would like to knit with sooooo with that in mind and my new toy - my Loom - I am planning a small rug or pillow.  I thought a nice sort of cream string type yarn for warping and then using this wool as the weft I could make a very pretty little rug out of it.  That is in the planning :)  Just need to wash and hang it and see what happens.

Glimakra Loom

In the last few weeks I have sold my old knitting machine and bought a secondhand loom.  It is a Glimakra "Anne".  They have discontinued this one but I am finding it very easy to work with....since I have had a lot of coaching from Patty.  She is amazing, having so much knowledge on weaving as she has been doing it herself for the last 10 years.

Anyhow, here are some pics of my loom and my first project.  I am following a Craftsy course on weaving and it is full of good ideas and tips for first timers like myself.

This was just a bit of messing around to check that everything worked.  The yarn was far too thin and kept breaking off but I got the feel of the loom which is an important step for a newbie.

My husband made me a raddle.  A bit far spaced but helped me a lot to warp on my own.

Tie ups at the back of the heddles helped keep them in line with the warp for easy access and threading
My first project is ready to go.  I am following Craftsy Weaving and making 3 pillows.  The class is easy to follow so here we go.

Test piece is ready to check tension and dent size.
